I don’t get some local magazines in Singapore. Why do they use models who are foreigners or at least, half local? I have always wondered why i do not see local models in their fashion spread or beauty section.
Don’t get me wrong that I dislike foreigners, I think they all have impeccable features and have the height and body contour that could do poses which turns out absolutely gorgeous. I have known friends who would like to be models or are aspiring to be one though maybe some are vertically challenged, I’m sure they can bring some Asian flavour to the plate.
I also find this puzzling because sometimes what looks nice (especially make up editorials) on foreign models may not look as nice on local girls. Since I’m a little tanned (as my friends put it), some shades do not suit my skin tone and I envy those models who can pull off the look. The only local people who do get to be on the cover of certain magazines here are the usual suspects like celebraties or famous Asian models.
Don’t you think we should tap on our own talents, instead of just writing about talents discovered overseas and have made a name for themselves already?
